Does Acupuncture Hurt?
One of the most common questions we hear is, “Does acupuncture hurt?” It’s a completely natural concern—after all, the idea of needles can sound intimidating. But in reality, acupuncture is far more gentle than most people expect.
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin—about the width of a human hair—and nothing like the hypodermic needles used at the doctor’s office. Most patients feel little to no pain when the needles are inserted. In fact, many people report feeling deeply relaxed during treatment, and some even fall asleep!
Occasionally, you might feel a slight tingling, warmth, or a dull sensation at the needle site, which is a sign that your body is responding to the treatment. These sensations are typically brief and not uncomfortable.
At Maryville Acupuncture, our goal is to make your experience as comfortable and healing as possible. We take time to explain the process, answer your questions, and ensure you feel at ease throughout every session. So if you’re curious but hesitant, don’t worry—acupuncture is a gentle, safe, and surprisingly soothing way to support your health and well-being.
